The Word on AHA!
“My first six years living in the DC area were spent focused on my
career. I was overweight, out of shape, and living off fast food
when I decided that I needed a change. I wasn't interested in the
gym atmosphere or the one-dimensional personal trainers they tend
to employ, so I searched for a trainer who understood nutrition
and whose approach to fitness went beyond barbells and machines.
Thankfully I found Alicia and A Holistic Approach. We met at
Starbucks to discuss her background and my goals, and I knew that
she was the person I needed to help me get healthy again.
Alicia accommodated my schedule and worked with me outdoors since
I didn't want to be trapped inside a gym. My endurance improved
from initially jogging 1 minute /and walking 3 minutes to running
nonstop for 45 minutes. Through several nutritional assessments my
eating improved dramatically with little effort. Alicia and I
worked together for almost two solid years before schedule changes
and my move further into the suburbs made it impractical for us to
continue, but her training helped put me on a path to lifetime
fitness. I now workout 5 mornings a week at the gym, swim 4 days a
week, and my eating is the best it has ever been. DC residents
with fitness or nutrition needs should make A Holistic Approach
their first stop.”

This Month's Tip:

Organic vs.
Non-Organic
With the increasing price of food, many people have
noticed “sticker shock” in the check-out line at the grocery store.
Eating healthy has always cost more, and now it’s increasingly
expensive. Eating organic, sustainable whole food has become a
greater share of people’s household budgets. What should one do to
balance eating healthy with not going broke? There are some food
items that are not necessary to buy organic. These fruits and
vegetables tend to contain the least amount of pesticides. It is
critical, however, as with all produce, to wash them before eating
or cooking them.
Here is the list:
• Asparagus
• Avocadoes
• Bananas
• Broccoli
• Cabbage
• Corn (sweet, frozen)
• Kiwi
• Mangos
• Onions
• Pineapples
• Peas (sweet, frozen)
